About the role

JHI Group has two divisions, Janotta & Herner, and Firelands Fabrication. Janotta & Herner is northern Ohio’s true design/build general contractor, headquartered in Monroeville, OH. Founded by an Architect and a Building Contractor in 1962, Janotta & Herner has embodied true Design Build Construction from the beginning. Firelands Fabrication is a 72,000 SF steel fabrication shop located in New London, OH. Firelands Fabrication is dedicated to meeting all our client's structural and miscellaneous steel needs on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Survey existing conditions, property boundaries, topography and existing utilities
  • Process and analyze survey field data to create accurate existing conditions drawings
  • Cook with local AHJ to ensure compliance with local requirements
  • Provide practical design recommendations and preliminary design drawings for pricing
  • Meet with the project team to understand the design requirements of the project
  • Analyze and identify project risks
  • Provide practical design recommendations and preliminary design drawings for pricing
  • Assist in the preparation of drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Maintain organized, efficient project files and follow company CAD standards
  • Provide the construction team with general site, building, and utility layout as requested
  • Collaborate with engineering, surveying, and construction teams to ensure accurate final deliverables
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of survey fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of surveying equipment including total station and GPS
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) and Civil 3D software
  • Basic understanding civil engineering design principles, site layout, and construction processes
  • Associate degree in civil engineering technology or similar is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience is preferred
  • Mathematical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Great analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check

Skills

Pay

Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This position involves a 50/50 split between office-based work and field activities. Typical work hours are 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with additional overtime as needed to meet project goals and deadlines. Some flexibility in scheduling may be required to accommodate project demands, site conditions, or special events. Field work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and active construction environments while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
