About the role
Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline
- Assist teacher with instructional activities
- Escort students from room to room
- Assist with toileting of students when required
- Work with both special education and regular students
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP
- Supervise students during recess and lunch
- Assist students with classroom assignments
- Copy materials for instructional purposes
- Assist teacher in filing material and preparing necessary paperwork
- Alert teachers to problems that may be observed
- Participate in PMT (Positive Management Techniques) training as required
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment (e.g., Parapro Assessment)
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence
- Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with units of money, weight, volume, and distance)
- Basic computer skills for job-related tasks
- Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
- Awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to push items up to 50 pounds (e.g., children on bikes or wheelchairs, moving furniture)
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (with assistance for heavier items)
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
Work Environment
- Works in classrooms, school buildings, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus
- Noise level typical of school environments with children
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge
Pay
$22.12 - $25.18 per hour (per contractual agreement)
Schedule
6.5 hours per day, 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM
