Circulation Services Evening Supervisor

Reports to the Director of Library Services.

About the role

The Circulation Services Evening Supervisor manages all daily circulation activities in the evenings, including facility checks, policy enforcement, security of library resources, and supervision of student workers and library assistants. Additional responsibilities include committee participation, library marketing, reporting maintenance needs, and providing customer service.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Center of Information Desk (Circulation activities) and library services in the evenings.
• Train and supervise library assistants, student workers, and interns.
• Collaborate with the Collection Development and Metadata Librarian to manage the acquisition process for new books, audiovisual materials, and standing orders, including searching bibliographic databases and receiving library materials.
• Complete physical processing of new books, gift books, media materials, and library equipment (e.g., labeling, stripping, stamping, applying barcodes).
• Receive and process incoming acquisitions mail and shipments to verify order accuracy.
• Prepare and maintain records related to book acquisition activities.
• Assist in library outreach services and promotions.
• Enforce and assist users in understanding library policies and procedures.
• Assist users in finding general reference resources and using library computers.
• Perform closing duties such as securing and locking the library and conducting door counts.
• Maintain circulation and evening service statistics.
• Maintain online chat/messaging by answering or filtering questions to the library.
• Maintain keys.
• Assist in placing items on reserves, re-shelving books, and library inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet library service demands.

Requirements

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• At least 2 years of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.
• Knowledge and understanding of library or customer services in a diverse environment.
• Strong technology, writing, and communication skills.
• Managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with college students.
• Familiarity with library services and procedures.
• Web design experience.
