Duties and Responsibilities
- Circulation & User Information Services
- Performs all duties related to charging and discharging library materials according to established policies and procedures.
- Affords assistance in the creation, maintenance, and updating of circulation records and patron files.
- Answers patron questions about their records.
- Affords assistance in the use of the library catalog, including searching, renewals, and questions about individual titles.
- Affords assistance in the use of research tools, including navigation of the library website, and navigation of library subscription databases and other research resources.
- Responds to phone, email, chat/text, and in-person user enquiries.
- Answers or refers questions as needed.
- Opens and/or closes the library according to established procedures.
- Shares responsibility for recordkeeping and statistics related to user information services.
- Fulfills duties of the Circulation Manager in the Manager’s or Assistant Manager’s absence.
- Stacks Maintenance
- Conducts stacks maintenance activities including shelving, shifting, and shelf reading.
- Affords assistance in maintaining the reserves section of the library, including handling special circulation needs.
- Supervision
- Supervises student workers when the Circulation Manager is not present.
- Affords assistance in training, supervising, and evaluating service point student staff.
- Other
- Affords assistance with special library projects and supports other library departments as needed.
- Affords assistance with facilities maintenance.
- Affords assistance with scanning and printing services.
- Serves as back up to other library personnel as needed.
- Customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computers, library systems and office technology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to assist users with research resources and library services.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accuracy and work independently.
- Minimum Requirements: Associate’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with personal computers and peripherals for desktop applications.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and creatively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to enhance and support a diverse learning and working environment.
- Preferred Requirements: Educational background in Studio Art, Design, Art History, or Humanities discipline; One or more years of experience in library setting or equivalent customer services work environment; Supervisory experience.
- To work with computers, both visually and dexterously.
- Hearing and speaking abilities to communicate effectively with patrons while serving on the circulation and reference desks.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and reach shelving heights up to six feet with ladder assistance.
