CIOD Nigeria launches Mentorship Scheme to enhance Corporate Governance in the Country
The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIOD) has launched a mentorship scheme aimed at fostering a culture of excellence in corporate governance. The scheme, initiated in the first quarter of 2022, is designed to develop the next generation of directors and leaders, provide guidance and support for professionals navigating complex governance issues, and enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses globally.
About the Scheme
The CIOD Nigeria Mentoring Scheme is transformative, providing a safe space for learning, reflection, and exploration. It matches mentees with experienced mentors who share their expertise, experiences, and networks to support professional development.
At the launch event held on December 11, 2024, at Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, dignitaries including Alhaji Tijjani M. Borodo, LLM, F.CIoD (President and Chairman of the Governing Council), Dr. Ije Jidenma, DF.CIoD (Immediate Past President), Nnamdi Okonkwo, M.CIoD (Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings), and Dr. Olusegun Osunkeye (Immediate Past Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce – Nigeria) emphasized the scheme’s significance.
Alhaji Tijjani M. Borodo highlighted that mentorship is a powerful tool for personal and professional growth, while Nnamdi Okonkwo shared his personal journey, crediting mentorship for his rise to CEO of Fidelity Bank at age 42.
