Essential Functions

  • Develops leaders of character who live by the Norwich Guiding Values.
  • Promotes an ethical climate through sound moral judgment and example.
  • Counsels and mentors cadets while enforcing university standards and policies.
  • Identifies and refers at-risk cadets to appropriate support services using the EAB system.
  • Designs, updates, and implements company training plans in coordination with the Assistant Commandant.
  • Maintains cadet performance in academics, training, fitness, and conduct.
  • Mentors and evaluates cadet leaders at all levels.
  • Participates in Corps promotion and performance evaluation processes.
  • Ensures a professional company environment that promotes discipline, academic success, and leadership development.
  • Reports serious misconduct and assists in company-level investigations as directed.
  • Conducts admissions presentations about Corps life and leadership opportunities.
  • Manages barracks operations, including housing assignments, key control, inventories, and maintenance requests.
  • Communicates with parents and families as permitted under FERPA.
  • Serves as Student Affairs Duty Officer (SADO) on a rotating basis, including evenings and weekends.
  • Advises or liaises with designated Corps or ROTC committees, staff sections, or specialty units.
  • Provides Corps prospect briefs to interested cadets and their family members.
  • Wears the Vermont State Militia uniform throughout the period of employment.

Other Functions

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Additional years of experience may substitute for degree.
  • U.S. military veteran or extensive experience working with young adults.
  • Experience in training, instruction, counseling, and mentorship.
  • Knowledge of military customs, flag protocol, drill, and ceremony.
  • Experience with disciplinary or corrective procedures in a military or structured environment.
  • Experience in higher education, student development, or conduct administration preferred.
  • Demonstrated approachability and ability to relate to college students pursuing military, government, or civilian careers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) required.
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds.
  • Able to wear a military uniform in conformance to Army Regulation 670-1 standards.
  • Work some early morning, evening, and weekend hours, and be on-call throughout the night when acting as Student Affairs Duty Officer.
  • Environmental Conditions: Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work for training. High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes when outdoors.
