Chuj Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Chuj-English phone interpreter to work remotely from home. This is an independent contractor position and not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities

• Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Render accurate and concise interpretations of conversations between Chuj and English speakers.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm during interpreting sessions.
• Ensure punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and comply with protocol to meet client expectations.
• Understand and adhere to industry-specific terminology and procedures.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
• Be prepared to handle emotionally charged and stressful calls.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Chuj and English with cultural competency.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to remain detached and neutral during sensitive conversations.
• Experience in language-related fields such as teaching, translation, or interpretation.
• Adaptable to LLS technology enhancements.
• At least 18 years old.
• Licensed to work in the United States.
• Ability to read and write Chuj and English.

Pay

$1.25 - $1.40 per minute.

Schedule

This is a remote position where the interpreter works from their home office. A quiet and secure environment is essential.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
• Desktop/Laptop computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS operating systems.
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android).
• Smartphones (iOS or Android).
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
• High-speed internet connection with download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping value of no more than 300 ms, and jitter value of no more than 30 ms.
• Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.

Physical Requirements

• Able to operate a keyboard and mouse for most of the workday.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
• Able to lift up to 26 lbs.
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
