About the role

The Behavioral Health (BH) Nurse Manager serves as a key clinical and operational leader across both adult and pediatric outpatient behavioral health services. This position reports directly to the Duke Children's Clinical Operations Director (COD), with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Duke Children's Administrative Operations Director (AOD) and the Adult Behavioral Health AOD.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the delivery of high-quality, patient- and family-centered care across multiple behavioral health settings.
  • Provides leadership and operational oversight for Adult Behavioral Health Clinics, a multi-site program that includes Duke Behavioral Health North Durham, North Pavillion, and embedded provider programs; Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinics at Lakeview; Autism Clinic; Duke Children's Evaluation Center (DCEC); Pediatric Psychodiagnostic Clinic; and Duke Children's Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
  • Serves as the clinical and operational leader for these behavioral health programs, partnering closely with medical directors, Duke Children's leadership, Adult Behavioral Health leadership, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Clinical and operational oversight of nursing services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Three years of nursing experience is required.
  • Experience in Behavioral Health and/or Ambulatory environments preferred.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Nurses hired into leadership positions must obtain a nursing leadership certification within one year of hire.
  • New nurse leaders who are ineligible to sit for an exam because they have not been working in a leadership role for the minimum amount of time required must complete their certification within three months of becoming eligible.
  • Show motivation and influence; manage vision and purpose.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including NCBON, TJC and Infection Prevention.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Three years of nursing experience required.
  • Experience in Behavioral Health and/or Ambulatory environments preferred.
  • Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Must obtain a nursing leadership certification within one year of hire.
  • Must complete certification within three months of becoming eligible if ineligible to sit for an exam due to lack of leadership experience.
  • Must show motivation and influence; manage vision and purpose.
  • Must have working knowledge of regulatory requirements including NCBON, TJC and Infection Prevention.

Relocation assistance is available for employees relocating from a permanent residence located at least 50 miles from Duke University Hospital. Up to $10,000 is offered.
