Child Support Specialist Trainee
About the Role
This is an entry-level training position in Child Support Enforcement. Through formal classroom and on-the-job training, you will develop familiarity with Child Support Laws, regulations, policies, programs, and services of the Bureau of Child Support Enforcement (BCSE). The role includes a structured training period where you will perform beginning-level Child Support casework, including processing cases, case development, and issuing initial notices to non-custodial parents regarding obligations and enforcement involvement.
Under close supervision, you will acquire the knowledge and abilities needed to independently manage a caseload in Child Support Enforcement. Monthly evaluations and progress monitoring by supervisory staff are required. Training will cover locating parents, assets, and income sources, calculating Child Support formulas, researching legal sources (statutes, court opinions, rules, and regulations), and compiling case information through public documents, interviews, and interagency collaboration.
You will also perform beginning-level customer service tasks, including resolving less complex case issues, composing routine correspondence, and maintaining confidentiality of information.
Responsibilities
- Learn to process Child Support cases through various stages, including case development and initial notices to non-custodial parents.
- Develop familiarity with agency policies, State and Federal Child Support Laws, and regulations.
- Acquire skills to locate parents, assets, and sources of income for Child Support calculations.
- Research legal sources such as statutes, court opinions, rules, and regulations.
- Compile case information by reviewing public documents, interviewing customers, and gathering information from other agencies and case files for BCSE Attorneys.
- Respond to customer service inquiries, resolve less complex case issues, and compose routine correspondence.
- Maintain confidentiality of all case-related information.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of clerical and/or paraprofessional experience.
- OR substitution: Successful completion of study from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience at a rate of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) credit hours of education.

- Availability of a vehicle for continuous use may be required.
