About the Role
A Child Life Specialist plans, develops, and implements programs to support the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and implement Child Life programs.
- Coordinate and supervise special events in inpatient pediatric areas, collaborating with marketing and media teams for activities like photography and interviews.
- Develop strategies to reduce children’s fear and anxiety related to healthcare experiences.
- Prepare patients and families for procedures using therapeutic play, and evaluate developmental stages, coping abilities, and emotional states.
- Identify and apply coping strategies, and provide consultation to healthcare staff on developmental and behavioral issues.
- Maintain records of services provided, and oversee departmental budget and resources.
- Offer Child Life consultations to support visiting children and assist in preparing them for hospital visits.
Requirements
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) in Pennsylvania upon hire.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life or related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting working with children.
- Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association) upon hire.
