About the role
This position is dual certification and open to both internal and external candidates. There is 1 vacancy with 5.8 hours/day (Monday-Friday 8:00AM-2:18PM) for 9.5 months. The position uses one eligibility list for both open competitive and promotional candidates. This is a continuous examination process that may close at any time with little to no notice. Qualified candidates who submit applications after the review date will be considered in the next examination process. The list generated from this recruitment will be used to fill both substitute and permanent vacancies in the District.
Responsibilities
- Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement to develop children's school readiness skills such as: communication/literacy and cognitive skills, including building self-esteem and self-help skills.
- Reads, sings, and works with children during various indoor and outdoor activities.
- Maintains clean and safe environment by wiping down tables, sweeping floors and outdoor playground, washing and sanitizing dishes, and disposing of trash.
- Care and supervision (as per program procedure) of all children at all times while under their care.
- Implements developmentally appropriate instructional activities by working with children on different learning activities inclusive of assisting children with conflict resolution and redirection skills and strategies.
- Supervises students to ensure safety during play by organizing various indoor/outdoor activities that encourage positive peer relations and safe interactions with other students.
- Provides health and safety maintenance by assisting students with toileting, diapering, washing hands, brushing teeth, tying shoes and properly wearing backpacks and jackets.
- Aids in meal preparation and serving by arranging and serving pre-prepared food at appropriate temperatures and in appropriate serving portions according to direction, monitoring and assisting children during meal times (as per CACFP procedures) and helping children during meal set up and clean up.
- Collects and tracks information, including attendance, sign-in sheets, meal counts, and student head counts as per program procedure.
- Supervises children when teacher must temporarily leave classroom, which may include basic instructional activities.
- Assists Teacher in monitoring, evaluating and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children through observation and basic documentation.
- Performs clerical duties, such as answering phones, requesting and acquiring supplies from the Child Development Office and taking supplies or messages to and from multiple classrooms.
Requirements
- Six (6) months experience either in paid or volunteer status, which indicates your ability to work with children from ages eighteen (18) months to five (5) years in an organized setting.
- Completion of twelve (12) postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in the core early childhood education or child development courses. Be currently enrolled in an accredited institution leading to an Associate Degree (AA/AS) or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.
- Possession of a Child Development Associate teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Valid Pediatric First-Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificates are required by the first day of work and must be maintained during employment.
