Join the Parks, Recreation & Libraries team as a Child Care Program Leader and grow your career in a supportive, inclusive environment. This temporary, part-time position assists with planning, coordinating, and supervising Child Care and/or preschool programs.

About the role

This is a year-round position limited to 30 hours per week for a maximum of 1,500 hours per fiscal year. The work schedule requires evening and weekend availability, typically Monday through Friday between 12:00 PM and 6:15 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and supervising Child Care and/or preschool programs
  • Perform a variety of duties related to program implementation and child supervision

Requirements

  • Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six months of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain State-required certifications related to health, safety, and operation of a licensed day care facility within six months of hire

Qualifications

Option 1:

  • Four years of experience in a licensed day care center, comparable group child care program, or direct work with children (e.g., classroom teaching, teacher assisting, physical education, recreation programs, human services, or counseling)
  • Completion of 12th grade and 12 semester units (or equivalent quarter units), including 3 units in administration/staff relations and/or 3 units in early childhood education

Option 2:

  • Two years of experience in a licensed day care center, comparable group child care program, or direct work with children
  • Associate’s degree or 60 semester units of college coursework, including 18 units in a major field of study and 21 units in general education
  • Two years of related work experience can substitute for the Associate’s Degree, provided 3 units in administration/staff relations and/or 3 units in early childhood education are completed

Option 3:

  • One year of experience in a licensed day care center, comparable group child care program, or direct work with children
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 3 units in administration/staff relations and/or 3 units in early childhood education

Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by an accredited agency (e.g., NACES or AICE). Verification is required for employment.

Schedule

  • Part-time, year-round (maximum 30 hours/week, 1,500 hours/fiscal year)
  • Evening and weekend availability required
  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM–6:15 PM
