Child Care Instructor I/II - Part-Time Benefited & Temporary Non-Benefited

About the role

The Parks and Community Services Department currently has four (4) vacant positions available. The Child Care Instructor plays a vital role in planning and executing educational and recreational programs for school-age children under the general direction of the Child Care Site Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the day-to-day operations of the childcare and development center
• Provide supervision to Child Care Assistants and Aides
• Ensure a safe and enriching environment for the children
• Plan and conduct structured activities such as sports, games, arts & crafts, and social activities
• Communicate effectively with children and serve as a positive role model
• Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
• Work during weekdays, after school, and all day during school vacation periods

Requirements

• Education: 24 Units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE or Child Development (CD))
• Experience: 12 months paid experience working with children
• Permits: Child Development Permit or Children's Center Permit at the Associate Teacher level issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
• Certification: Certificate in Red Cross Basic first aid/CPR (may be obtained within first six months of employment)

• Passionate about child development and dynamic environment
• Strong understanding of child development principles and effective techniques for supervising school-age children
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledgeable in basic first aid/CPR
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including after school and during school vacation periods
