Child Care Attendant

About the role

The City of Durango is seeking a Child Care Attendant to join the Parks and Recreation team at the Recreation Center’s Babysitting Room. This position involves supervising children up to age 8, developing and leading crafts and activities, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children up to age 8 continuously while they are in the Babysitting Room
• Take initiative in developing and leading fun, age-appropriate crafts and activities
• Communicate clear expectations and directions to children and Babysitting Room users
• Maintain a safe and appropriate environment by monitoring children and activities
• Keep the Babysitting Room organized, clean, and tidy
• Verify payment or membership access for Babysitting Room users
• Confirm that children are released only to authorized individuals
• Maintain required Babysitting Room records and paperwork
• Attend required staff meetings and training sessions
• Arrive on time and prepared for assigned shifts
• Follow department policies and procedures and represent the City of Durango professionally
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

Requirements

• Education or training in working with children through recreation, education, scouting, 4-H, or a related setting
• Experience in a childcare, school, camp, or similar setting is preferred
• Ability to obtain CPR, first aid, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification
