About the role
The Child Care Assistant position at the Academy Child Development Center in New London, CT, is responsible for executing educational experiences, managing a program environment, assisting with activities, and performing various care-giving tasks.
Responsibilities
- Plans and executes appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials.
- Works with the director and teachers to implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities.
- Helps establish a positive interaction environment among children, youth, and adults.
- Assists in providing and leading planned activities for program participants.
- Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
- Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and the command.
- Maintains program participation data and completes required daily reports.
- Prepares, arranges, and maintains indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
- Maintains control of and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children at all times.
- Performs routine care giving tasks, helps with materials and activities, receives children, interacts with children, and attends to their physical needs.
- Ensures care is provided in accordance with standards, assists in planning, conducting activities, conducting health checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, and completing reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- One year of general experience working with children, preferably in a group setting.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation and Civilian Medical Clearance Examination.
Qualifications
- Two (2) years of education above high school level, including twelve (12)-semester hours of college credit in early childhood/elementary/secondary/special education, child/youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration, or related behavioral sciences.
- A One (1) year vocational certificate in childcare is preferred but not required.
