About the role

The Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Pediatric Otolaryngology Section Chief, with the associated position of Department Chair at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in Aurora, CO.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Department of Otolaryngology and CHCO across clinical care, research and education in Pediatric Otolaryngology.
  • Advocate for the highest level of complex Pediatric Otolaryngology care, training of medical students, residents and fellows, and fostering high-impact research.
  • Ensure faculty recruitment, development, and retention; strategic practice management & business development in alignment with CHCO.
  • Deliver the highest level of care in the academic medical center setting to patients and referring provider/community networks.
  • Steward the residency training program and nationally-regarded fellowship program.
  • Governance responsibilities include faculty recruitment, development, and retention; strategic practice management & business development in alignment with CHCO; delivery of the highest level of care in the academic medical center setting to patients and referring provider/community networks; stewardship of residency training program and nationally-regarded fellowship program; and growth of the NIH funding portfolio in pediatric otolaryngology in alignment with CUSOM’s Top 10 in 10 goal for NIH funding.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Associate Professor: 4+ years of experience in a comparable Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and be at the rank of Associate Professor or above. Professor: 7+ years of experience in a comparable Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and be at the rank of Professor or above.
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine degree. Fellowship trained in Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. Board certified in Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.
  • Experience: Associate Professor / Professor Level with experience in academic leadership.
  • Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado MD license.

Qualifications

  • Experience in research, preferred with independent funding (i.e. NIH).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Motivate excellence and teamwork among providers and staff, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Exemplary leadership with regards to conflict resolution among all team members. Strong leadership skills, including interpersonal communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, problem resolution, decision-making and project/change management. Ability to integrate clinical, quality/patient safety, management and financial concepts within a pediatric, academic healthcare setting. Experience in leading high-performing, cross-functional teams; designing and implementing processes for strong and effective clinical and practice management operations. Commitment to ensuring an excellent patient experience. Promotes the four-fold mission of clinical care, research, education and advocacy.
