Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care - 90%
    • Provide palliative care consultations for patients from birth to young adulthood.
    • Include prenatal consultations for pregnant mothers with anticipated need for NICU care.
    • Supportive care for patients who are typically medically-complex or have life-limiting conditions.
    • Develop symptom management plans for both inpatient and home use.
    • Psychosocial support for families.
    • Aid in care coordination for families navigating the healthcare system.
    • Interface with multiple inpatient teams and outpatient providers.
    • Coordinate care for patients and support for their families/caregivers.
    • Direct utilization of the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care team.
    • Maintain and ensure proper updating of relevant patient records.
    • Provide weekday coverage.
  • Education/Teaching - 10%
    • Provide mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU and Wellstar at MCG.
    • Develop a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in palliative care.
    • Provide training to residents/students/staff at AU/Wellstar at MCG in palliative care through didactics and bedside teaching.

    Required Qualifications

    • Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university or equivalent, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or equivalent clinical experience.
    • State of Georgia Medical License, Federal DEA, and certification in CPR.
    • South Carolina licensure helpful as we serve patients who reside in SC.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    • This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
    • The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation’s largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
