Chief of Cardiology -Physician

About the role

The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Healthcare System seeks a full-time board certified Cardiologist to serve as a Chief of Cardiology. Experience with heart failure patients is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigned administrative and clinical supervision of all Physicians and APP's within Cardiology Service.
• Complete yearly proficiencies for all providers within the service.
• Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
• Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care.
• Procedural skills may include (dependent upon training) arterial puncture, EKG interpretation, Transthoracic and Transesophageal echocardiography performance and interpretation, other cardiology procedures such as cardiac catheterization (right and left heart), cardiac biopsy, balloon angioplasty, coronary artery stenting, pacemaker placement, pericardiocentesis, venipuncture, cardiac dysrhythmia diagnosis, mapping and ablation, or other cardiology techniques, diagnostics, or procedures dependent on type of fellowship and post-fellowship training.
• Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.
• Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care. Collaborate with APP's and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am -4:30pm; Plus rotating inpatient call shifts. Ad-hoc Telework is authorized for this position.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Basic Requirements:
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• In rare and unusual circumstances, the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer, who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience, accomplishments, performance, and qualifications warrant such action.

Preferences:

• At least 5 years in Cardiology Specialty and leadership experience.
