Community Hospital Corporation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Nursing Officer to lead Huntsville Memorial Hospital in Huntsville, TX.

About the role

The CNO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the clinical services of the facility. Under the direct supervision of the CEO/Administrator, the CNO provides, manages, and supervises the clinical staff, ensuring that competency, numbers, and staff levels are appropriate to meet the immediate and complex needs of patients. The CNO promotes the overall quality of nursing care while operating under the ANA Standards of Practice. In conjunction with the professional staff, the CNO plans, coordinates, manages, and evaluates clinical programs and services, promoting a team approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Defines and implements operational standards, policies, and procedures addressing how nursing care needs of the patient population are assessed, met, and evaluated.
  • Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources regarding current practices and clinical processes.
  • Conducts needs analysis, identifies and prioritizes needs, and applies problem-solving skills to improve operations.
  • Promotes quality by incorporating nationally recognized professional standards and expert literature into policies and procedures.
  • Encourages identification of alternate processes and potential solutions to improve safety, quality of care, and maintain patient rights.
  • Oversees preparation and management of operating, special project, and capital budgets for nursing; ensures utilization of productivity measures and nursing support of revenue cycle needs.
  • Meets budget-critical financial metrics and provides stewardship of all financial resources.
  • Determines staffing requirements and ensures availability of adequate, competent staff (including contract labor) who are properly credentialed, educated, trained, motivated, and engaged.
  • Directs performance management systems, including policies for feedback, recognition, and addressing poor performance.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Staff to identify and resolve issues affecting nursing care and overall patient care.
  • Fosters open communication between patients, nursing, and medical staff to resolve problems and promote harmonious relationships.
  • Establishes and communicates a clear, compelling vision; ensures stakeholders know the hospital’s mission, vision, and priorities.
  • Works with the Board, senior management, physicians, and nursing staff to develop and update strategies for growth and improvement.
  • Creates an organizational climate encouraging teamwork, employee engagement, collaboration, accountability, and quality results.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations, influencing and persuading at all levels inside the hospital and corporation.
  • Builds rapport and trust through frequent and timely communication; maintains effective medical staff relationships.
  • Works with community leaders to assess healthcare needs, build a positive hospital image, and market services.
  • Actively participates in the community through civic and service activities.
  • Accurately assesses developmental needs and provides feedback, coaching, and personal development opportunities.
  • Addresses performance and behavior problems promptly and directly; takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Sets clear, consistent goals and expectations; holds self and others accountable for decisions and actions.
  • Champions change by helping staff understand reasons for and benefits of change; involves stakeholders in the process.

  • Maintains compliance with all laws and regulatory requirements; acts promptly to comply with required changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited university program.
  • MSN preferred or enrolled and progressing toward an MSN.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Minimum of three years of direct patient care experience in an acute care setting; critical care experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of management experience demonstrating competency in supervising patient care services.
