Chief Nurse Executive

About the role

The Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) will lead the nursing programs and services for the State Supported Living Center (SSLC), ensuring high-quality care for individuals with intellectual disabilities who also have complex medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs. The CNE will oversee nursing operations, coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees the daily operations and business functions of the nursing department to ensure high quality nursing treatment.
• Develops and executes a nurse staffing plan to ensure timely availability of nursing staff.
• Designs, develops, and implements systems to evaluate and contribute to the quality of patient care.
• Oversees infection control practices and nursing response to illness outbreaks.
• Provides and coordinates treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.
• Hires, trains, and promotes professional growth of the employees within the department.
• Ensures compliance with training standards and maintains all nursing licenses.
• Oversees the work of the Nursing Operations Officer and specialty nursing positions.
• Oversees monitoring of nursing compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules.
• Reviews special investigations and develops corrective action plans and quality improvement plans.
• Oversees the development and implementation of nursing care policies and procedures.
• Evaluates the quality of nursing services provided and ensures resident's rights are protected.
• Oversees the nursing care of residents in cooperation with the Medical Director and unit directors.
• Provides consultation to nursing staff on complex cases.

Requirements

Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited college or university. Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Texas. Must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar role. Must have a strong understanding of nursing protocols, policies, and procedures, as well as experience in managing a large nursing staff. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
