Company Overview

Asset Living is a third‑party management firm and a proven partner in fostering thriving communities nationwide. Founded in 1986, Asset Living has decades of experience delivering exceptional value to its partners. Since the beginning, its passion has driven organic growth from a small property management firm to one of the most trusted allies in real estate.

The portfolio includes multifamily, single‑family home rentals, affordable housing, build‑to‑rent, active adult, and student housing divisions across the country. Asset Living is a fast‑growing company made up of talented individuals from diverse backgrounds who drive innovation and results for clients and communities.

The company culture emphasizes collaboration, empowerment, and continuous improvement: “Together We Lead, Together We Succeed.” Recognized as one of the nation’s Best and Brightest Places to Work and ranked in the NMHC top 50 professionals, Asset Living is a member of The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and is an Accredited Management Organization (AMO).

About the Role

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will build and lead the next generation of Asset Living’s marketing organization. The CMO is responsible for both the enterprise brand and the property‑level marketing organization, influencing perception among clients, prospects, residents, employees, industry partners, investors, and the broader marketplace. The role requires closing the gap between the company’s operational scale and its brand awareness, establishing a unified national brand, strengthening the company’s position with institutional‑quality clients, creating a sophisticated inbound demand‑generation engine, professionalizing communications and reputation management, and building a modern, technology‑enabled marketing organization that delivers measurable financial returns.

The CMO operates at two levels:

  • Strategic executive: shaping enterprise strategy, growth priorities, capital allocation, culture, reputation, and market positioning.
  • Hands‑on builder: engaging directly in messaging, campaigns, analytics, technology, events, organizational design, and problem solving while building the leadership team and infrastructure for the next stage of growth.

The CMO will oversee approximately six corporate marketing professionals and a property marketing organization of roughly 100 professionals, covering corporate marketing, property marketing, communications, public relations, digital, content, events, marketing operations, analytics, creative, and brand.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise marketing strategy aligned with growth objectives, operating strategy, client segmentation, and long‑term vision.
  • Serve as the executive leadership team’s principal advisor on brand, market positioning, reputation, communications, customer perception, and marketing strategy.
  • Establish and protect a clear, differentiated national brand architecture, defining positioning, value proposition, messaging hierarchy, brand standards, visual identity, tone of voice, and enterprise narrative.
  • Build a marketing engine that generates qualified inbound opportunities and improves outbound business‑development productivity, including content, campaigns, executive visibility, thought leadership, digital strategies, account‑based marketing, and outreach programs.
  • Lead modernization of digital marketing capabilities, overseeing the corporate website, technical SEO, content SEO, local and national search visibility, Generative Engine Optimization, AI answer‑engine visibility, LLM discoverability, structured content architecture, and digital authority development.
  • Develop and lead a professional corporate communications and public‑relations function with a proactive media strategy, including press releases, corporate announcements, executive commentary, media engagement, industry perspectives, research, client success stories, awards, and thought leadership.
  • Design a comprehensive national events strategy, overseeing customer conferences, executive events, client experiences, sponsorships, trade shows, and other strategic gatherings.
  • Provide executive leadership to the property marketing organization, creating scalable standards, technologies, processes, analytics, and operating models that improve property‑level marketing effectiveness while allowing appropriate asset‑level customization.
  • Partner with the Chief People Officer and senior leadership to strengthen the internal brand and employer value proposition, enhancing recruiting, employee engagement, executive visibility, and organizational pride.
  • Create an enterprise social‑media strategy tied to defined audiences and business objectives, establishing standards for corporate, executive, recruiting, property, and business‑line social media.
  • Establish a rigorous performance‑management system for marketing via dashboards and KPIs that connect activity to business outcomes.
  • Develop an annual marketing budget aligned with strategic priorities and measurable expected returns.
  • Travel approximately 5 % of the time annually for conferences, training sessions, or other business‑related activities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Significant progressive leadership experience in sophisticated marketing organizations.
  • Experience serving as a Chief Marketing Officer, EVP Marketing, SVP Marketing, or comparable senior marketing executive.
  • Experience operating within a large‑scale organization and managing leaders who themselves manage teams.
  • Proven ability to build, rebuild, or materially transform a marketing organization rather than merely inheriting a mature function.
  • Demonstrated success operating in a high‑growth environment.
  • Meaningful experience with both B2B and B2C marketing.
  • Experience marketing a service‑based business with multiple constituencies and complex customer journeys.
  • Ability to connect marketing activity to commercial and financial outcomes.
  • Experience partnering closely with senior sales or business‑development leadership.
  • Experience managing a substantial marketing budget and making disciplined investment decisions.
  • Experience developing executive‑level marketing strategies and personally helping execute them.
  • Success improving brand awareness and market positioning.
  • Experience building or directing sophisticated communications, PR, digital, content, events, analytics, and brand programs.
  • Proven track record of leading leaders and developing high‑performing teams.
  • Preferred: experience within property management, residential real estate, multifamily, student housing, senior housing, affordable housing, hospitality, or an adjacent industry.
  • Preferred: experience within a Top 10 property management organization or another large‑scale, distributed service organization.
  • Direct property‑management experience is advantageous but not required.
