Chief Infrastructure Officer - Deputy Chief Infrastructure Officer

About the role

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is seeking two experienced, strategic, and forward-thinking leaders to serve as its Chief Infrastructure Officer and Deputy Chief Infrastructure Officer. These positions will lead the Transit Division's Maintenance of Way & Facilities operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee critical infrastructure systems supporting daily transit service throughout the City and County of San Francisco.
• Support infrastructure operations, workforce alignment, system reliability, and modernization efforts within one of the nation's most complex urban transit systems.
• Unify highly specialized teams and build productive labor relationships.
• Communicate effectively across diverse groups and help shape the future of transit infrastructure in San Francisco.

Requirements

• Highly collaborative and emotionally intelligent leadership skills.
• Strong operational and infrastructure backgrounds.
• Experience leading large-scale infrastructure projects.

• Understanding of transit systems and infrastructure management.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in infrastructure management, preferably in a transit or municipal setting.
• Experience in project management, labor relations, and stakeholder engagement.
• Knowledge of transit systems and infrastructure management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay

Annual salary range for the Chief Infrastructure Officer: $223,860 - $330,720 DOE/DOQ
Annual salary range for the Deputy Chief Infrastructure Officer: $210,678 – $311,194 DOE/DOQ
