About the role
We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in training to join our team. This role is responsible for learning the processes and expectations of managing and directing all aspects of the hospital's financial operations. You will be seen as a strategic partner to the CEO and work as a team to optimize operational efficiency across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Learn and manage all aspects of the hospital's financial operations, including financial planning and reporting, and treasury management
- Ensure monthly financial statements are completed timely and accurately
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly in compliance with company policies and standards, identifying and correcting outstanding variances
- Prepare corporate required reports (including the Monthly Operating Report, Forecasts) timely and accurately
- Direct the operations of the Revenue Cycle to ensure timely collection of accounts receivable and minimal uncompensated care
- Strive to achieve goals for cash collections, AR days, and reduce bad debt and denials
- Routinely review revenue cycle metrics to proactively identify and address performance issues
- Ensure Front End Revenue Cycle processes are in place, including 100% insurance verification for patients
- Work with the Financial Counselor to determine patient portions, approve discounts or charity, and log upfront collections
- Supervise Accounting, Patient Accounting/Business Office, Health Information Management, and other departments assigned by the CEO
- Prepare annual capital budgets and Capital Equipment Requests
- Ensure assets and related depreciation are recorded accurately and in compliance with company policies
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to facility managers, training them on financial matters and providing routine feedback on department performance
- Maintain current knowledge of healthcare industry trends and changes to ensure facility compliance and preparedness
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred
- Previous experience in financial management or significant public accounting experience specifically related to the healthcare industry required
- Behavioral healthcare experience highly preferred
- Experience working with information technology and proficiency with software packages including Excel and Word
- Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, and communication skills
- Must possess or obtain a valid CPR certification and be certified in facility-approved verbal de-escalation and physical crisis management techniques within 30 days of hire and prior to completion of orientation
