About the Facility
This facility features:
- 9 Operating Rooms (South) and 3 Operating Rooms (North)
- 19-bed capacity for inpatient and observation (South)
- Specialties: Dentistry, General Surgery, Gastroenterology (GI), Gynecology, Imaging, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, and more.
Responsibilities
- Direct, coordinate, and control all aspects of the facility’s operating functions, processes, and staff to efficiently provide surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.
- Oversee the daily operation of the facility and serve as a liaison between the Governing Board, Medical Staff, and all departments.
- Report facility activities to the Governing Board at regular intervals and appoint a responsible person in your absence.
- Plan for facility services and operations, including overall management of the Partnership as outlined in the Operating or Limited Partnership Agreement.
- Lead discussions during the Monthly Operations Review call with USPI’s Home Office Business Operations team.
- Deploy, monitor, and ensure USPI’s EDGE™ is the foundation of the facility’s operational processes and integrated within the QPI program.
- Ensure compliance with USPI’s policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Develop, monitor, and control staffing needs, operations budget, capital budget, and purchasing plan to stay within budget and maintain compliance with group purchasing initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with government regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
- Negotiate and control external contracts (e.g., physicians, ancillary services, plant maintenance, purchasing agreements).
- Foster positive work relationships among all departments and act as liaison between USPI’s Home Office and facility staff.
- Develop and ensure compliance with departmental policy and procedure manuals.
- Monitor financial performance to avoid cash flow problems.
Personnel Administration
- Hold monthly staff meetings outlining facility goals and priorities.
- Manage exempt and non-exempt employees in accordance with facility policies, ensuring fairness.
- Review employee performance evaluations and approve disciplinary actions or discharges.
- Evaluate management performance and designated staff.
- Approve position additions/deletions and new hires for vacant roles.
- Develop employee productivity analysis using USPI’s Staff Tracker and adjust workforce based on surgical case volume.
- Implement job-based orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation programs.
- Ensure proper maintenance of employee files and records.
- Provide professional development opportunities for staff.
- Promote positive customer relations among employees and physicians.
Clinical Services
- Ensure surgical programs and clinical services comply with regulatory and accrediting body standards.
- Work with the Medical Director and Medical Executive Committee to evaluate and develop surgical services.
- Manage clinical departments (nursing, central supply, medical records, housekeeping) and supervise contracted services (laboratory, radiology, pharmaceuticals, laundry, biomedical engineering).
- Monitor the function of surgical and patient care equipment through contracted services and follow up on repairs.
Marketing and Planning
- Develop and implement a sales/marketing plan aligned with USPI’s Sales Plan and the facility’s business plan.
- Identify and develop new services appropriate for ambulatory surgery centers.
- Foster positive public relations.
Quality Improvement
- Develop, evaluate, and promote a continuous quality improvement program.
- Administer the infection control program and medical staff review of the QI program.
- Identify and correct quality care issues.
- Develop statistical indicators to evaluate overall operations and quality of care.
- Serve as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee.
Medical Staff Relationships
- Process practitioner credentialing for the facility.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director to review and revise Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations biannually.
- Serve as a liaison to address problem areas with the medical staff.
- Promote positive relationships between employees and practitioners.
- Develop systems to define physicians' and patients' needs to determine the proper mix of services and efficiencies.
Physical Facility
- Ensure the facility is clean, professional, well-maintained, and conveys confidence to patients, families, and physicians.
- Identify and approve plant improvements and repairs.
- Promote a safe and aesthetically appealing physical environment.
- Maintain appropriate records and report incidents related to emergency generators, utilities, security, environment, and emergency preparedness drills.
Administrative Representation
- Attend corporate administrative meetings representing the facility.
- Act in accordance with the facility’s vision, mission, and business philosophy.
- Maintain membership in professional associations relevant to ambulatory surgery and healthcare administration.
- Stay current on changes in the healthcare environment (e.g., reimbursement, legislative issues, business law) and act in the corporation’s best interest.
Personal Development and Professionalism
- Identify areas requiring additional education, consultation, or practicum.
- Attend all mandatory in-services and meetings.
- Follow the facility’s professional conduct and dress code policy.
- Maintain patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, patients, and employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Hospital (with emphasis on Surgical Division) or Surgical Hospital experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in facility or healthcare management, culminating in successfully leading a complex entity in a culturally diverse, competitive urban environment.
- Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, employees, patients, and others.
- Additional qualifications may be determined by the Governing Board.
