Position Summary
The Los Angeles County Medical Association seeks a dynamic, externally focused Chief Executive Officer to build upon the organization's strong momentum and lead its next phase of growth. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for expanding LACMA's membership, strengthening its value proposition, cultivating strategic partnerships, advancing physician advocacy and healthcare policy, and elevating the organization's influence across Los Angeles County's healthcare ecosystem.
Visionary Leadership & Organizational Operations
- Oversee daily operations with an equal balance of strategic oversight and hands-on execution to guide organizational priorities and establish a clear direction for LACMA’s long-term sustainability.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to ensure strong stewardship of resources. This includes navigating long-term contracts for group membership programs and overseeing the expansion of non-dues revenue and a portfolio of investments.
- Lead a dedicated team of 5 full-time hybrid employees, fostering a culture of autonomy, clarity, and collaboration that empowers team members and encourages professional growth.
Membership Growth and Engagement
- Strengthen LACMA’s membership value proposition so that physicians receive timely, practical, and high-quality professional resources.
- Expand LACMA’s market reach by identifying and serving new audiences across the L.A. County health care ecosystem, including residents, medical students and small practice physicians.
- Provide strategic leadership for LACMA’s membership engagement efforts, strengthening member retention, satisfaction, and long-term organizational value.
- Continuously evaluate how LACMA can enhance the member experience by creating innovative programming, valuable networking opportunities, and differentiated benefits that strengthen engagement and long-term membership growth.
External Relationships and Partnerships
- Serve as LACMA’s ambassador, representing the organization to members, hospitals, medical networks, affiliate organizations, partners, sponsors, peer associations, policymakers, and others.
- Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders, sponsors, and partners across the healthcare landscape.
- Maintain a strong organizational identity that allows for independent operations from peer organizations, while identifying opportunities for collaboration and advancement of physician led medical care.
Political Advocacy and Policy Influence
- Develop and steward collaborative relationships with peer affiliates, policymakers and healthcare leaders to advance thoughtful policy approaches that support physicians, advance healthcare equity, or any aspect of the policies and activities of organized medicine.
- Review existing social impact agenda and engage with thought leaders to participate in conversations, policies and strategies that elevate LACMA as a reliable and trusted resource for medically-related and socially-conscious issues.
- Provide stability, flexibility, and adaptability to the changing healthcare and political landscape at the federal, state, and local levels, while leveraging networks to advance LACMA’s policy agenda.

- Membership Growth and Member Engagement: The next CEO will be energized by growing membership and continually strengthening the value LACMA delivers to physicians. They understand the dynamics of membership organizations and know how to attract, engage, and retain members through relevant programming, meaningful benefits, and strategic partnerships.
- Healthcare Credibility and Industry Insight: The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of healthcare delivery and the challenges facing physicians, medical groups, hospitals, public and private health systems, and other healthcare organizations. This experience enables the CEO to engage credibly with physicians, understand their evolving needs, and identify practical solutions that strengthen the practice of medicine.
- Executive Influence and Stakeholder Leadership: The CEO will engage with a remarkably diverse group of stakeholders - from individual physicians and volunteer board leaders to health system executives, public health agency leaders, elected officials, policymakers, insurers and leaders from CMA and other peer associations.
- Strategic Leadership and Organizational Stewardship: The CEO will provide disciplined leadership for a mission-driven membership organization, balancing long-term vision with operational excellence. Working closely with the Board, this leader will shape LACMA's next strategic plan and build upon the organization's strong financial position to support future growth.
