About the role
The Animal Protective Foundation (APF) is seeking an inspiring, mission-driven leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected animal welfare organization guiding its people, programs, and partnerships into a strong, sustainable future while making a tangible difference for companion animals and the communities the APF touches.
Responsibilities
- Set the strategic direction and bring the vision and decisions to life with energy and measurable goals.
- Champion fund development across the annual fund, major gifts, grants, events, and donor relationships to sustain and grow the mission.
- Steward financial health through sound budgeting, audit oversight, internal controls, and fiduciary integrity.
- Lead and grow the team by supervising, mentoring, and developing senior staff and fostering a healthy organizational culture.
- Ensure excellent operations of the shelter and spay/neuter clinic, in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Serve as spokesperson and advocate representing the APF to donors, partners, government, and the media, and advancing public policies that protect companion animals.
- Partner with the Board on governance, strategic planning, and the organization's long-term financial strength.
Requirements

Strong Candidates Will Bring Progressively responsible senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or comparable organization. A track record of success in fund development including annual giving, capital campaigns, major gifts, grants, and donor relations. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, audit oversight, and Board-level reporting. Experience partnering with a volunteer Board of Directors and supporting effective governance. Demonstrated people leadership skills through building, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams. Excellent communication and public-representation skills as a credible spokesperson and advocate. A commitment to animal welfare and the values of the APF.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
