Chief Estimator
Elite Executive Solutions has been retained to conduct a confidential search on behalf of a well-established, highly respected Local 3 electrical contractor in Lower Manhattan. Due to continued growth and a strong backlog of complex commercial projects, our client is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department and help drive continued success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all estimating and preconstruction activities for commercial electrical construction projects.
- Manage and mentor a team of estimators, providing technical guidance, quality control, and professional development.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to develop comprehensive bid strategies.
- Prepare and review conceptual budgets, negotiated proposals, design-build estimates, and competitive hard bids.
- Establish labor productivity assumptions, material pricing, subcontractor evaluations, and risk assessments.
- Develop value engineering recommendations and identify opportunities to improve project competitiveness.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, operations, project management, and business development teams throughout the pursuit process.
- Participate in client presentations, bid reviews, and project turnover meetings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Continuously improve estimating standards, procedures, and best practices across the organization.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of electrical estimating experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success estimating large commercial electrical construction projects within the New York City market.
- Experience managing or mentoring estimating teams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, labor productivity, scheduling, and cost control.
- Proficiency with Accubid, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and other industry-standard estimating software.
- Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple high-value pursuits while meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Experience with Local 3 electrical construction and union labor agreements is strongly preferred.
