About the role
The Chief Estimator is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and assistance to the estimating group, and assisting the Manager, Project Services. This role involves developing project estimates, budgets, and bid proposals based on the latest costing methodology and data.
Responsibilities
- Analyze drawings, designs, specifications, and tender documentation to assist estimators in preparing schedules, cost estimates, and bid documents.
- Supervise activities and conduct reviews.
- Absorb quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
- Consult with vendors and specialists.
- Involvement in performance capabilities/calculation adjustments to reflect historical performance.
- Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain their contributions.
- Information management.
- Help implement and maintain Company’s estimating standards.
- Utilize the company’s estimating and scheduling software.
- Utilize spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software.
- Prepare all tenders in accordance with the Company’s bidding process.
- Conduct/manage bid proposal efforts and review sessions.
- Provide an excellent level of proficiency in proposal write-ups (letters, methodologies, clarifications, etc.).
- Aid the Proposal Coordinator in meeting the deliverable requirements of all tender submissions.
- Aid and support project management to ensure continuity between tender, construction, and project completion.
Requirements
- Must have a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Mathematics, or Business Administration.
- 10 years of post-graduate field and/or office-based project accounting, estimating, or controls experience related to underground construction projects or operational mining environment.
- Knowledge of project management, construction contracts, reporting, and data manipulation.
- Good understanding of general business interfaces and/or processes as they relate to human resources, procurement, engineering, construction operations, accounting, and administration departments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate team commitment.
- Supervision of subordinate staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Redpath management and clients.
- Manage estimating and related project services on projects.
- Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling software (MS Projects or Primavera), and measurement and estimating software.
