About the role
The Chief Engineer leads the safe operation and maintenance of HVAC and electrical building systems across multiple Macy’s locations. Responsibilities include service, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of commercial HVAC equipment, execution of preventive maintenance programs, and monitoring of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Responsibilities
- Service, diagnose, and troubleshoot all types of commercial HVAC equipment.
- Conduct scheduled routine inspections and execute preventive maintenance programs.
- Maintain and review logs on stationary equipment, such as boilers and chillers.
- Utilize a CMMS to complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Perform maintenance on a variety of electrical systems.
- Install or replace Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Monitor and troubleshoot BAS for HVAC and electrical equipment.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new HVAC and electrical technologies.
- Train and mentor other colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with peers, management, and customers.
- Work with on-site installation personnel to ensure adherence to standards and functionality.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect.
Requirements
- EPA Universal Certification.
- 5+ years of experience in diagnosing and fixing issues in commercial HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in managing and maintaining both air-cooled and water-cooled chiller systems.
- Advanced communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge and skills in diagnosing and repairing electrical distribution systems and control equipment.
- Understanding of BMS strategies and troubleshooting low voltage and control circuits.
- Talent for building networks and collaborating across departments.
- Project management skills.
- Analytical skills for problem-solving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.
- Lifting at least 30 lbs., stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Able to work a flexible schedule.
