Chief Engineer
About the role
The Chief Engineer position at the Inn at Perry Cabin is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of engineering, maintenance, and grounds operations for the property. The role involves overseeing preventive maintenance programs, managing departmental budgets, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, fire and life safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Directs and manages the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department and ensures all departmental standards are followed.
- Oversees the completion of daily preventive maintenance and corrective work orders, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation.
- Maintains knowledge of the hotel features/services, hours of operation, daily house count, and expected arrivals/departures, etc. to ensure work orders are scheduled around critical times.
- Plans off-season projects and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Implements safety protocols.
- Reviews engineering logbooks prior to each shift and discusses operational priorities with management before delegating work assignments.
- Maintains the guest rooms and public areas in a first-class manner utilizing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
- Manages the Inn at Perry Cabin’s key control system.
- Inspects and maintains all building systems and life-safety to ensure minimum down-time, expense, and discomfort to our guests.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, schedules, evaluates, and develops Engineering team members.
- Sets departmental standards for image, appearance, and grooming, ensuring the department represents the company professionally to guests, vendors, and outside organizations.
- Returns business calls the same day.
- Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance in accordance with our Dress Code Standards for uniformed associates.
- Participates in daily line-ups, weekly or monthly meetings to ensure the hotel’s philosophy is known and energized by all staff members.
- Attends necessary meetings and functions to show support and provide input towards the success of the hotel.
- Assists other employees with their job functions to ensure optimum service to guests, when applicable.
- Fosters and promotes a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
- Anticipates guests’ needs, responds promptly, and acknowledges all guests at all times.
- Responds to hotel emergency situations and remains available for emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.
Requirements
- Previous leadership experience in a similar role.
- Engineering degree/diploma OR 3-5 years related experience.
- Computer literate in Microsoft applications.
Qualifications
- Physical demands: Regularly stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, twist, and reach above shoulder level. Use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, and materials requiring dexterity, grip strength, and fine motor skills. Push and pull tools, equipment, and materials. Maintain balance and agility while working on ladders, elevated surfaces, or in confined spaces. Use both close and distance vision, including color vision. Work with moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and hand and power tools while following all established safety procedures. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques and mechanical assistance when appropriate.
- Work environment: Employees may work in both indoor and outdoor environments and should expect exposure to a variety of conditions, including: Hot, cold, wet, and humid weather conditions. Daytime, evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional emergency call-in hours, as required. Dust, dirt, fumes, odors, moisture, cleaning chemicals, solvents, paints, and other maintenance-related materials. Loud noise from machinery, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Dirty or dusty working conditions. Company-provided uniforms and protective clothing are available for this purpose. Moving mechanical equipment, live electrical systems, and other hazards commonly associated with engineering and maintenance operations. Employees are required to wear all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, hard hats, and other safety equipment as required by company policy and OSHA regulations.

Pay
$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
