What this job involves
As a Chief Engineer at JLL, you will lead the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and performance of critical building systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This role is responsible for overseeing engineering operations, driving maintenance and reliability programs, and supporting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence. You will play a key role in protecting and enhancing the value of client assets while delivering exceptional service and maintaining a commitment to maximum system uptime.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Lead and manage building engineering operations, including HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, pumps, electrical systems, and related mechanical infrastructure.
- Oversee preventive maintenance and repair programs to ensure equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and minimal downtime.
- Monitor building systems performance through inspections, logs, and testing, and respond promptly to operational issues or equipment malfunctions.
- Supervise engineering and maintenance staff, including scheduling, training, performance management, and professional development.
- Manage contractor activities and ensure all work performed within the facility meets safety, operational, and compliance standards.
- Maintain inventory levels for tools, equipment, and operational supplies, including purchase order coordination and vendor sourcing.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including safety standards, documentation requirements, and infrastructure records.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of facility engineering or building operations experience in a commercial, industrial, or critical environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering or maintenance teams.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, pumps, piping, and building infrastructure operations.
- Experience implementing preventive maintenance and equipment reliability programs.
- Certification as a Universal CFC Technician or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Operating Engineer license (SMA) or equivalent certification, as required by local jurisdiction.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures, compliance requirements, and operational best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in critical facilities, data centers, healthcare, or high-uptime environments.
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms and maintenance tracking systems.
- Knowledge of construction planning, project coordination, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, contracts, and service providers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building drawings, and electrical single-line diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and team development skills.
