About the role

The Division of Medical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals is recruiting for the next Chief of the Division of Medical Genetics. The selected candidate will join a leading academic medical center with established clinical and training programs in genetics and genomics. The Division provides care for pediatric and adult patients across the San Francisco and Oakland campuses, including clinical genetics and biochemical genetic medicine, and contributes to the Department's mission of excellence in research, education, and patient care.

Responsibilities

The Division Chief will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Division's clinical programs, faculty, educational activities, and scholarly initiatives. In partnership with departmental and health system leadership, the Chief will support the continued growth of genetics and genomic medicine across UCSF and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the clinical and research enterprises. In this role, the successful candidate will help advance high-quality, team-based care for patients with genetic and metabolic conditions while fostering excellence in medical education, scholarship, faculty development, and program growth across the Division's missions. Substantial institutional resources and opportunities for collaboration across UCSF's clinical and research enterprises will support the continued development and expansion of the Division's interdisciplinary clinical, research, and educational programs.

Required Qualifications

  • MD, MD/PhD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Possession of a California medical license by the time of hire
  • Board certified or board eligible in Clinical Genetics and Genomics (MD) or Clinical Biochemical Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG), or an equivalent certifying body
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
  • Experience fostering a culture of respect, access, and belonging within academic medicine

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in the candidate's applicable genetics specialty
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or an equivalent certifying body
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentorship
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proven track record of program development and faculty engagement
  • Established scholarly achievement in clinical, translational, and/or basic research
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategically in academic and clinical settings

Pay

The total compensation for this position ranges from $207,734-$272,008, with the potential for additional incentive pay up to $30,000. Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.
