Section Chief of Pediatric Clinical Genetics (F50150)

About the role

The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a Pediatric Clinical Geneticist to lead the Section of Clinical Genetics. CHoR is a leading full-service academic pediatric hospital in central Virginia, with a new 500,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art inpatient facility opening in April 2023.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: Contribute to the clinical supervision and education of residents, medical students, genetic counseling graduate students, and ancillary staff. Mentor junior faculty and participate in didactic teaching in the MS Genetic Counseling Program and VCU School of Medicine.
• Research: Engage in scholarship through presentations at national meetings, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, and active participation in professional organizations.
• Service: Participate in regional, national, and international conferences with clinical colleagues. Serve on departmental, institutional, and national committees.
• Clinical: Actively participate in various clinics and other settings, including telemedicine, and share call and consultative responsibilities with other Clinical Genetics physicians. Provide care for patients across the lifespan, with a focus on pediatric and adult patients.
• Administrative: Responsible for section growth and development, strategic planning, quality improvement, and fostering relationships within the Department and VCU Health and genetics community. Supervise section MDs, APPs, genetic counselors, metabolic dieticians, and ancillary staff.

Requirements

• MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree with ABMGG certification in Clinical Genetics and Genomics.
• Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience providing patient care.
• Demonstrated clinical and teaching experience.
• Previous leadership experience or a strong commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• AMBGG certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics.
• Experience and interest in research and scholarly activity, evidenced by publication in professional journals and presentations at national meetings.
