About the role
Reporting into the President, IDEOlogy Health is seeking an ambitious, experienced leader to guide the business development and strategic partnerships of our rapidly growing medical education company. The Chief Business Officer will provide vision, strategic and tactical leadership, and market experience to develop an integrated customer engagement strategy to drive profitable revenue growth. You will identify and develop strategic growth opportunities while ensuring we are properly resourced to achieve our growth and revenue targets. We’re looking for an exceptional leader with a strong ownership mindset to consistently and proactively seek ways to improve the business and operationalize new ideas and insights.
The Chief Business Officer will engage at all levels of the enterprise, specifically partnering closely with scientific affairs, events management, marketing, legal/compliance, and finance. You will drive all aspects of business development and strategic partnerships: culture, team development, P&L management, growth, and ongoing business development. You must be comfortable working with the C-suite of our clients and our company, easily transitioning to working with stakeholders at all levels to ensure customer satisfaction.
Success in this position requires a strong understanding of peer-to-peer medical education, oncology medical affairs, marketing and sales, as well as other therapeutic areas and the overall biopharma industry, including all applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of managing a high-performance sales organization and experience influencing senior stakeholders both within their organization and within clients’ organizations. The leader will also need to be a strong, hands-on operational manager able to execute against business objectives while growing and developing teams and individuals.
Responsibilities
- Manage the structure, vision, and organization to ensure the effective fulfillment of business objectives with the infrastructure necessary to support growth.
- Manage approximately 3-5 direct reports.
- Stimulate a productive and motivating work environment that drives excellent performance.
- Develop and instill a sense of team in the organization.
- Develop new account strategies and establish and maintain strong relationships with all customers.
- Achieve budgeted revenue and gross margin goals for the business while operating within policies/procedures and assigned expense budgets.
- Travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel and some weekends.

- Establishing strong and productive relationships, trust, and credibility across business development, strategic partnerships, scientific affairs, marketing, and other business units.
- Demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the market and competitive landscape.
- Hiring as needed and bringing focus and alignment to the business development and strategic partnerships team, directly impacting increased revenue and new account acquisition.
- Making a demonstrable improvement in the number of customers and profitability.
Requirements
- 10+ years of demonstrated and progressive experience in Pharmaceutical and/or Medical Device sales and marketing with a proven track record of success.
- Demonstrated experience leading a US salesforce and/or marketing team with proven results in driving revenue, profit, and market share growth through designing and executing effective sales plans.
- Demonstrated success expanding product adoption (new and existing products) in competitive, changing, and current market conditions.
- Experience building and maintaining interactions with Key Opinion Leaders and top customer executives.
- Proven ability to be a hands-on, strategic leader who can build synergistic teams both internally and externally.
- Ideally have worked in a small company/startup with successful introduction of new products/concepts to the market.
- Possess a “hands-on” management style; adaptable to a fast-paced, high-growth, ever-changing environment.
- Driven, sales-focused, and accountable. Able to assume ownership for delivering aggressive revenues, building external partnerships and collaborations, creating new accounts, and establishing communication channels that support growth.
- Good business sense and ability to think and operate cross-functionally.
- Excellent leadership acumen with exceptional interpersonal and mentoring skills. Proven ability to select and motivate competent, successful sales and marketing talent.
- Demonstrated record of achieving objectives within time frame and budgetary limitations.
- A doer as well as a strategist who can execute both simultaneously.
- A strong background with a professional network in oncology and other therapeutic areas or related biotechnology is preferred.
- Expertise in partnering with senior business leaders across key functional areas such as operations, finance, sales, marketing, technology, and human resources.
- Ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Advanced degrees in science and business are desirable but not required.
