About the role
The Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as its next Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO). Reporting to the Chief Clinical Operations Officer & Senior Vice President, the CPO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic oversight for all pharmacy services across the enterprise while advancing Roswell Park’s mission of delivering world-class cancer care, groundbreaking research, and exceptional patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for all inpatient, outpatient, specialty, clinical, and research pharmacy services across the enterprise
- Develop and execute a long-term strategic vision that advances pharmacy practice, operational excellence, patient safety, and innovation
- Lead all pharmacy programs including clinical services, medication distribution, drug information, specialty pharmacy, formulary management, research, education, and business operations
- Partner with executive leadership, physicians, nursing, and operational leaders to optimize medication management throughout the organization
- Oversee formulary development, medication-use policies, and enterprise-wide pharmaceutical stewardship initiatives
- Champion medication safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Foster innovation through technology optimization, automation, specialty pharmacy expansion, and evolving models of pharmaceutical care
- Support and strengthen clinical research and investigational drug services that advance Roswell Park’s academic and scientific mission
- Promote pharmacy’s role in multidisciplinary patient care, clinical decision-making, and value-based healthcare delivery
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and engagement
- Build strong partnerships with faculty, researchers, department leaders, industry partners, and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standards, New York State regulations, federal requirements, and evolving best practices in pharmacy
- Advance a culture grounded in High Reliability Organization principles focused on safety, transparency, continuous improvement, and exceptional patient care
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced pharmacy degree with qualifications consistent with executive leadership in academic healthcare
- Progressive executive leadership experience overseeing complex health system pharmacy operations
- Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic initiatives across clinical, operational, financial, and research domains
- Deep understanding of oncology pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, medication safety, formulary management, and regulatory compliance
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within complex academic medical centers or integrated health systems
- Executive presence with the ability to influence, inspire, and build trust across executive leadership, physicians, faculty, boards, and external partners
- Proven ability to lead organizational transformation, operational excellence, and innovation while maintaining a strong focus on quality and patient outcomes
- Passion for developing future pharmacy leaders through mentorship, education, and succession planning
- Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and change management skills
- Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion, accountability, collaboration, compassion, and continuous improvement grounded in High Reliability Organization principles
