About the role

The Chicana and Chicano Studies Department (CCS) at San José State University seeks to hire temporary lecturers to teach lower and upper division courses in Chicana/o Studies. CCS is dedicated to educating students through interdisciplinary education focused on social justice.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower and upper division courses in Chicana/o Studies based on qualifications and degree level.
  • Serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
  • Organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure inclusivity in course materials and teaching strategies.
  • Teach students from diverse backgrounds, including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline for lower division courses.
  • Ph.D. degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline for upper division courses.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level preferred.
  • Experience teaching undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.

Qualifications

  • Education, specialization, or experiential knowledge in Chicana/o Studies methodologies or the Ethnic Studies discipline.
  • Ability to teach using the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Knowledge of and ability to teach in various modes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
  • Ability to teach in a diverse classroom setting.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse student populations.
  • Experience with online teaching platforms.

Benefits

  • Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience.
  • Part-time rates are prorated based on the number of months worked.

Pay

  • L-A / Range 2 - $5507 - $5959
  • L-B / Range 3 - $6221 - $7481
  • L-C / Range 4 - $6825 - $9431
  • L-D / Range 5 - $8593 - $10347

Schedule

  • Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December.
  • Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May.
