2026-27 Lecturer Pool for Ethnic Studies (Chicano/a/x and Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies)

California State University, Bakersfield’s Department of Ethnic Studies invites applications for its part-time lecturer pool for the 2026/2027 academic year. Positions are available for the following courses:

  • ETHS 1508 – Introduction to Chicana/o/x Studies
  • ETHS 1308 – Introduction to Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies

Appointments may range from a single day to a full semester and are filled on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications remain active only for the current pool (closing May 31, 2027).

About the College and Department

The College of Social Sciences and Education is CSUB’s largest college, enrolling over 4,000 students across ten departments, including Ethnic Studies.

The Department of Ethnic Studies, established in 2022, offers a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies and several minors. Faculty specialize in Asian American Studies, Black Studies, Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies, Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies, and Native American & Indigenous Studies. The department is committed to community-centered scholarship, advocacy, and preparing students to challenge racism and oppression.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in Chicana/o/x Studies or Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies
  • Develop and deliver course content aligned with departmental learning outcomes
  • Assess student performance and provide feedback
  • Hold regular office hours for student support

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Asian American Studies: Master’s degree in Asian American Studies or a related field
  • Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies: Master’s degree in Pacific Studies or a related field
  • Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies: Master’s degree in Chicana/o/x Studies, Latina/o/x Studies, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College or university teaching experience
  • Asian American Studies: Doctorate in Asian American Studies or a related field
  • Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies: Doctorate in Pacific Studies or a related field
  • Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies: Doctorate in Chicana/o/x Studies, Latina/o/x Studies, or a related field

Pay

Lecturer salaries are prorated for part-time assignments and vary by rank and experience. Full-time equivalent monthly salary ranges are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 (anticipated starting range: $5,507 – $6,092)
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 (anticipated starting range: $6,221 – $9,722)
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 (anticipated starting range: $6,825 – $10,674)
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 (anticipated starting range: $8,593 – $11,902)
