2026-27 Lecturer Pool for Ethnic Studies
California State University, Bakersfield invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the Department of Ethnic Studies for the 2026/2027 academic year (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027). Positions are temporary, part-time, and filled on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Appointments may range from one day to a full semester.
About the Department
The Department of Ethnic Studies, founded in January 2022, offers a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies and several minors. The department has five full-time and part-time faculty specializing in:
- Asian American Studies
- Black Studies
- Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies
- Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies
- Ethnic Studies
- Native American & Indigenous Studies
Faculty are committed to systems of liberation through scholarship, community advocacy, and preparing students for academic success and meaningful community participation.
Responsibilities
Lecturers will teach courses in their area of expertise within the Ethnic Studies curriculum. Duties may include:
- Developing and delivering course content
- Assessing student performance
- Holding office hours
- Participating in departmental meetings as needed
Requirements
Minimum qualifications for each area of specialization:
- Ethnic Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies or related field
- Asian American Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Asian American Studies or related field
- Black Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies, Black Studies, or related field
- Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Pacific Studies or related field
- Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Chicana/o/x Studies, Latina/o/x Studies, or related field
- Native American & Indigenous Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Native American & Indigenous Studies or related field
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- College or university teaching experience
- Doctorate degree in the relevant field of study (e.g., Ethnic Studies, Asian American Studies, etc.)
Pay
Lecturer positions are paid on a monthly scale, prorated for part-time assignments. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month (anticipated starting salary: $5,507 - $6,092 monthly)
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,221 - $9,722 monthly)
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,825 - $10,674 monthly)
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month (anticipated starting salary: $8,593 - $11,902 monthly)
Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
