Chemistry Lab Technician

About the role

We require a Chemistry Lab Technician to perform established analytical chemistry determinations in a Quality Control Chemistry lab. Work is predominantly inorganic in nature and supports our nuclear innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Follow written and verbal instructions to meet required precision and accuracy requirements.
• Maintain process and procedural qualification in area of cognizance.
• Weigh, measure, and mix both Uranium (for TRISO applications) and non-Uranium containing chemicals.
• Perform sample preparation through weighing, dissolving, diluting, and furnace treating samples.
• Operate analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Pycnometers, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units, and IC units.
• Oversee, troubleshoot, and perform established analytical chemistry determinations consistently and accurately.
• Train new quality control technicians to perform analytical chemistry determinations.
• Perform calculations to complete assignments.
• Review and comment on existing procedures and assist in generating new analytical procedures.
• Participate on process improvement teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of an Associate's Degree in a technical field OR a high school diploma with four (4) years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with electronics/electrical equipment.
• Proven ability to work with a high level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
• Self-motivated with the ability to show initiative with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and/or comparable programs.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• A strong background in mechanics is highly preferred.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance on instruments/equipment is highly desired.
• Experience in a quality control analytical laboratory (preferably inorganic in nature).
• Experience operating analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Pycnometers, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units, and IC units.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System is desired.
