Position Summary

Belmont Abbey College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry or Biochemistry, to begin August 1, 2026.

Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to teach undergraduate courses for students in the Biochemistry major as well as support classes for the Biology major, core, and Nursing program. Other courses that could be taught include a one-year sequence of Biochemistry with lab and an Introductory chemistry course for Nursing or Analytical Chemistry. The individual filling this position will teach a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester.

Qualifications

This position requires a Master’s Degree in chemistry or associated field, a doctoral degree is preferred (Applications from ABD’s will also be accepted). The successful candidate will be able to teach a one-year sequence of either General Chemistry with labs or Organic Chemistry with its labs. In addition to having a solid foundation in the liberal arts, the successful candidate will be able to articulate scientific insights in the context of the liberal arts educational tradition and the Catholic understanding of the human person. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to an intellectual life consistent with the College’s identity as a Catholic, Benedictine school that aims to provide an excellent undergraduate education “in the liberal arts and sciences so that in all things God may be glorified.” Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s credentials and experience.
