Chemistry Adjunct Instructor (TEMPORARY)
About the Role
Diablo Valley College inspires, educates, and empowers a diverse community of students to transform their lives and their communities. DVC instructors close the equity gaps by fostering success among all students. We are seeking adjunct instructors for our Fall 2026 semester to provide college-level instruction in Introductory Chemistry (CHEM-108). The position includes lecture and laboratory preparations and teaching, classroom management, and student assessment/evaluation.
Successful applicants will demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities of community college students.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules.
- Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas, and promotes critical thinking.
- Evaluate student progress concerning educational matters and grade student work.
- Meet with students outside of class.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Stay current with knowledge in the subject matter areas.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
- Maintain accurate academic records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
- Master's degree (or higher) in chemistry; OR
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master's degree (or higher) in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; OR
- California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time instruction in chemistry; OR

- Demonstrated excellence in preparation and knowledge of Introductory Chemistry (CHEM-108).
