Position Location

This position is located on-site in Arlington, VA.

Job Overview

The Chief Engineer oversees all physical plant and building operations for large facilities, including power plant systems, infrastructure maintenance, and engineering staff supervision. This role requires expert-level technical knowledge, leadership capability, and compliance with security standards for a high-security federal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage physical plant and building operations, including power plants supporting large facilities.
  • Supervise engineering and maintenance personnel with responsibility for daily operations, troubleshooting, and long-term planning.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and technical standards.
  • Oversee maintenance, repairs, and operation of critical building systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate with leadership, contractors, and inspectors on operational requirements and facility support.
  • Maintain readiness to operate within a facility requiring Secret-level clearance.

Requirements

  • Certifications in equipment operations.
  • Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience in physical plant and building operations, including power plants for large facilities.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must hold one of the following:
    • Association for Facilities Engineers (AFE) Certificate as an Operating Professional Engineer (OPE)
    • United States Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer License (Steam, Motor, or Gas Turbine vessels of any horsepower)
    • U.S. State Stationary Engineer License
    • District of Columbia 3rd Class Steam Engineer License (must obtain 1st Class License within two years of hire).

Pay

$57.25 / hour
