Role Overview
The RN Charge Nurse provides leadership and clinical expertise during their shift, coordinating resources to ensure appropriate staffing and patient care. They serve as a clinical support for staff, model professionalism, and oversee unit operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients holistically and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Delegate, coordinate, and supervise nursing care to ensure quality and safety.
- Manage staffing needs, optimize resource utilization, and handle operational leadership within the unit.
- Evaluate patient responses, revise care plans, and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Promote professional behavior, coach staff, and foster accountability.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and incident management.
- Support effective communication and conflict resolution among staff, patients, and families.
- Complete required Charge Nurse training and engage in ongoing professional development.
Qualifications & Skills
- Current RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in clinical nursing and mentoring.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN); completion within four years if hired without one.
- Strong assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, collaboration, leadership, and communication skills.
