Responsibilities
- Coordinate shift activities and perform a wide range of duties, including assessing patients, administering medications, managing emergencies, and ensuring adherence to established protocols and procedures.
- Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
- Monitor and document patient health including vital signs, medical histories.
- Conduct daily clinical rounds, providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
- Respond to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
- Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
- Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
- Maintain accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state of Nevada.
- Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA required).
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
- Two years of full time RN experience with knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and in a team.
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
- Physical Capabilities: Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
