About the Role

UC Health is hiring a Charge Registered Nurse (RN) for the 5th Floor Med Surg unit at West Chester Hospital. The Med Surg Charge Nurse will support the Surgical Med Surg unit at our Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures. This unit has 36 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 4 to 6 patients per nurse. Nurses in this unit assist with a variety of patient needs, including med surg and telemetry.

Responsibilities

• Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager for all matters of patient care and unit operations.
• Coordinates and secures appropriate resources to address patient care needs on the unit.
• Assigns nursing care activities at the beginning of and during shifts, adapting to patient needs.
• Uses knowledge from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate culturally based, age-specific patient care.
• Assessment: Demonstrates clinical skills to accurately assess physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of patients.
• Planning: Establishes and prioritizes individualized, age-specific patient problems and needs using collected data.
• Implementation: Delivers quality care based on assessed needs, established standards, and unit policies.
• Evaluation: Continuously evaluates nursing practice in relation to care standards and individual patient plans.
• Documentation: Accurately and concisely documents the nursing process, including treatment evaluation.
• Leadership: Effectively manages care through delegation and team coordination.
• Productivity: Considers cost-effectiveness and outcomes when planning patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current Ohio RN License.
• At least one year of nursing experience; additional clinical experience in medical/surgical, orthopedic, critical care, or gerontological nursing is desirable.
• BCLS certification required prior to patient contact.
• ACLS, telemetry, and specialty certifications (e.g., medical/surgical, orthopedic, critical care, gerontological) are desired.
• Membership in a professional nursing organization is desirable but not required.
