Charge Nurse RN Full Time - 12 hr shifts

Full Time, 6:45 am–7:15 pm (Days), 36–40 hours per week, various days, alternating weekends.

Promote and maintain continuity of nursing services for residents. Plan, implement, and evaluate all nursing services during assigned shifts. Education, Experience, Certification And Licensure Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a diploma or degree.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
• CPR/AED certification.
• 2+ years of nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide total nursing services for assigned residents.
• Receive report from off-going shift and give report to oncoming shift; make rounds.
• Receive and carry out physician orders according to established policies and procedures.
• Make shift rounds with physicians.
• Maintain knowledge of residents’ conditions; report significant changes to supervisor and/or physician.
• Respond to emergency calls of residents as assigned.
• Administer medications, treatments, and subcutaneous fluids in accordance with regulations and policy.
• Administer intravenous fluids unless LPN has specialized training; regularly check residents receiving IV fluids.
• Implement established resident care policies and procedures.
• Order and store medications according to pharmaceutical policies; remove outdated and discontinued medications.
• Maintain current scheduled and controlled drug records per State and Federal laws.
• Maintain and revise nursing care plans and service plans of residents as assigned.
• Maintain residents’ clinical records per established policies and procedures.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned certified nursing assistants and medication aides, including resident assignments and cleaning tasks.
• Ensure equipment is functional and a safe environment is maintained; complete maintenance request forms.
• Record required information in electronic medical records per established procedures; record monthly summaries and vitals; inform care team of diet changes.
• Assess resident injuries, render first aid, or make decisions for appropriate referral to doctor and/or ER; complete incident reports.
• Maintain a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to resident wellbeing using the neighborhood/household model; encourage socialization and rehabilitation.
• Attend mandatory in-service education and complete assigned Relias/Learning in-services.
• Attend nursing team meetings; keep supervisor and Director of Nursing informed of concerns and grievances.
• Assist nursing assistants with residents’ care as necessary, including bathing and eating assistance.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Intermediate conceptual knowledge of nursing theories, practices, and procedures, typically acquired through a nursing degree.
• Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of common disease processes and treatments.
• Clinical skills sufficient to perform all essential job duties.
• Ability to read, write, and speak using the English language.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.
• Ability to see, hear, and react appropriately to alarms and notifications.
• Computer knowledge and skills with aptitude to learn company software.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

• Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation.
• Physically able to carry, transfer, push, pull, and reposition residents with assistance or using appropriate equipment.
• Ability to work inside and outside to make rounds daily throughout the facility and respond to problems and emergencies.
• Normal eyesight or use of corrective lenses to achieve it.
• Ability to hear and distinguish between normal tones and perceive the nature of sounds.
• Exposure to the sights, sounds, and odors of a health services environment including senior citizens with serious cognitive loss.

Supervision and Decision Making

• Work is reviewed at critical points for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy; independent decisions are made based on standard policies and practices.
• Ability to assess, develop, and carry out resident plans and guide team members.
• Problem solving is more complex, dealing with individual and specialized situations; may collaborate with senior-level nurses on some occasions.
• Ability to recognize and adequately handle difficult problems and scenarios with residents and help supervise team members accordingly.
