Charge Nurse - Cardiac Specialty Unit (0.9 FTE, Nightshift)

About the role

The Cardiac Specialty Unit is set to open in July 2025, offering a bidirectional capability for patients requiring care beyond the standard CICU or acute care ward. Initially, the unit will accommodate up to 6 Intermediate Care level patients, with the remaining 7 beds reserved for cardiac surgical or pre-transplant acute care status patients.

Responsibilities

• Functions within the scope of practice as defined by the State and the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice.
• Planner, organizer, and provider of safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift.
• Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc., into daily work.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Previous Pediatric Cardiac Experience Required.
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
• Absolutely must have ACLS certification.
• Employees are responsible for any costs associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.
• Required Charge Nurses working in certain areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 3 months of employment, and maintain it at all times.

Qualifications

• Current Washington State RN License.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• More than one year Pediatric health care nursing experience.

Skills

• Knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients, and families of all ages.
• Knowledge and skill necessary to apply the nursing process to the oversight and coordination of patient care for the entire unit patient population during assigned shift.

Pay

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
