Charge Nurse, RN - Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (0.9 FTE, Nights)

About the role

The Charge RN functions within the scope of practice as defined by the State and the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice. They are responsible for the planning, organization, and delivery of safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift or for providing direct patient care. The Charge RN applies the nursing process to oversee and coordinate patient care for the entire unit patient population during their assigned shift. They assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc. into daily work.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and deliver safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift or for providing direct patient care.
• Apply the nursing process to oversee and coordinate patient care for the entire unit patient population during their assigned shift.
• Afford appropriate interactions with staff, patients, and families of all ages.
• Assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc. into daily work.
• Handle clinical unpredictable needs and provide a call obligation within their nursing positions as per House Bill 1155 (effective January 1, 2020).

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Minimum one year nursing experience is required.
• Pediatric health care nursing experience is preferred.
• Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions.
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
• Successfully obtain PEARS within 6 months of employment, unless the position is located within one of the departments requiring PALS, as listed below.
• Successfully obtain PALS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
• Successfully obtain ACLS certification by 9/30/18, or within 3 months of position entry, whichever is later.
• Successfully obtain a Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider Card from the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
• Successfully obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (in addition to PALS) within 3 months of hire.
• Successfully obtain certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) from the Rehabilitation Nursing Certification Board within 12 months of employment.
• Obtain Safety Care Certification (internal training) within 3 months of hire.
• Obtain nursing licensure in the WAMI region in order to support on call requirements for out of state patients.
• Obtain a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire.
• Obtain a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
• More than one year Pediatric health care nursing experience is preferred.

Pay

$51.60 - $91.30 per hour
