Chaplain - On Call/Per Diem Days

About the role

This per-diem chaplain provides spiritual support to patients, their loved ones, and staff in PIH Health's hospitals located in downtown Los Angeles, Whittier, and Downey. Coverage includes weekend and holiday shifts.

Responsibilities

• Serve people of all belief systems, providing or arranging special rites and rituals as requested.
• Assess and address spiritual distress quickly in complex situations.
• Build rapport, trust, and credibility with patients/families and collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in English both verbally and in writing.
• Lead public speaking/prayers, lead religious services, and design/deliver training events and education programs.
• Use electronic medical documentation software and other relevant computer software.

Requirements

• Board Certified Chaplain or in-process of achieving board certification within two years of employment.
• Maintain standing with an accrediting professional association/organization through annual continuing education.
• Experience in an ecumenical/interfaith environment.
• Multi-cultural awareness, humility, and curiosity.

Preferred Experience

• Bilingual Spanish and English fluency.
• More than five years of experience working in a hospital and/or hospice setting.
