Spiritual Care

This job ensures spiritual care for assigned units and on an as needed basis throughout the facility. The incumbent provides spiritual care to patients, families, staff, and visitors. The position offers support at the time of death and assists in decisions near the end of life.

Job Duties

• Provides presence, comfort, and spiritual support to patients, families, visitors, and staff during emergent calls, including crisis and death, as well as routinely on assigned units and as needed.
• Facilitates decedent care administrative responsibilities with families and staff following patient deaths as required by location.
• Captures and coordinates interfaith rituals and services as requested by hospital leadership.
• Maintains collegial ministry relationships, including the interdisciplinary team and spiritual care team.
• Provides mentorship to new spiritual care staff and/or CPE students.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
